Vikramjit Singh Sahney

Padmashri Vikramjit Sahney is the International President of World Punjabi Organisation (WPO). WPO is an International body of Punjabis which endeavours to bring out "Punjabi Renaissance". It is a Non-Political body of Prominent Punjabi Industrialists, Businessmen, Sportsmens, Journalists, Artists and achievers, excelling in their fields from all over the Globe. The Organisation was formally launched on 10th January 1998 with its Chief Patron as Shri I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India. It is actively engaged in promoting Punjabi Brotherhood, folk & culture to foster social, economic and cultural bondage among Punjabis globally.


		Promoting brotherhood and goodwill among Punjabis living the world over irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

		Uniting all Punjabis with the national mainstream for progress and prosperity of the country.

		Promote rich Punjabi culture, folk, language and literature to inculcate high social values.

		Fostering social, economic and cultural links among Punjabis spread over the globe, in keeping with the tradition of rich heritage of punjabiyat.

		Uplifting economically weaker Punjabis for their betterment.

		Imparting high level modern management techniques in education and other fields to deserving, outstanding, but economically weaker Punjabi students.

		Recognizing and honouring Punjabis who have made significant contribution to the society and cause of punjabiyat.

As the dynamic head of WPO, Padmashri Vikramjit Sahney has carried out a number of activities in various fields, Such as :-

CULTURAL & HISTORICAL EVENTS:

Symposium on "Enterprising Punjabis" with key note address by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India.

Conceived and produced multimedia extravaganza light & sound shows such as "Bole So Nihaal"& "Sher-e-Punjab"- on the history of Punjab; "Guru Manyo Granth"-on contributions made by 29 hindu & muslim saints in Guru Granth Sahib. Over 200 shows of above were organized in various cities in India, UK, USA, Canada and Thailand.

Organizing various spectacular light & sound stage shows such as "Heer Ranjha"-ballet performance by artists from Sctland and "Sirhand Di Dewar" showcasing the exemplary saga of sacrifice made by the 10th Guru Gobind Singh Sahib's younger sons Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, thereby contributing towards giving light to the history of Punjab

For over a decade, leading cultural and friendship delegation of over 100 prominent Punjabis to Pakistan to foster social, economic and cultural bondage among Punjabis on both sides of the border.

Organizing each year "Paigam Mohabattan De"- cultural galore during Baisakhi, that are presented jointly by leading artists from India & Pakistan.

RELIGIOUS EVENTS:

Celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birthday as universal brotherhood day at Rashtrapati Bhawan and Prime Minister's residence over several years.

SOCIAL EVENTS:

Organised the launch of India's first ever Mobile Breast Cancer Detection Unit for the masses. The unit was 'flagged off' by Hon'ble Vice President of India Sh. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

Supported first ever Bollywood concert at Trafalgar Square, London where prominent personalities like Sunidhi Chauhan, Malkit Singh, Jazzy B, Jackie Shroff and various reputed folk dancers performed . The concert was organized in aid of education for widow's children and was attended by Ms. Sherry Blair, wife of then Prime Minister of U.K.

Support of mega shows like 'Aye Wattan Tere Liye' in association with cine stars for collection of contribution to the Army Central Welfare Fune, an evening of rememberance and gratitude to heroes of Kargil.

Organized a fashion fiesta "Punj Daryia" by artists, models and fashion designers from east and west Punjab to give them the best boost. The theme of the event was inspired from the music of legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

OTHER EVENTS:

Release of Commemorative Stamp on the occasion of Tercentenary celebrations of birth of Khalsa by Shri K.R. Narayanan, Hon'ble President of India.

Grand kirtan Darbar was held at Sun Villa on the occasion of Tercentenary of Khalsa where 300 Amrican Sikhs led by yogi Harbhajan Singh Khalsa also participated . The Holi Shastras of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji were also displayed on the occasion.

Organized premier of film on the great martyr "Shaheed Uddham Singh" by Actor and Member of Parliament Raj Babbar Honouring prominent personalities from all walks of life for their outstanding contribution to the society in their field of specialisation. Some of them being Ujjal Dosanjh, first Punjabi premier of British Empire; Dr. M.S. Gill, former chief election commissioner and currently Minister of Sports, Govt. of India; late Sr. Inderjeet Singh, founder Chairman Punjab & Sind Bank; late Shri Sunil Dutt, Member of Parliament & Cine star and several others.

Hosting of various Dignitaries from abroad such as Mr. Korn Dabbaransi, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Mr. Ujjal Dosaanjh, premier of British Columbia, Mr. Keith Vaz, Minister for Common Wealth, UK, Sr. Inderjeet Singh, MP(Singapore), Mr. Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources, Canada, Lord Williams, Leader of House of Lords, UK. Besides, Lord Dholakia, Lord Daljit Rana, Baroness Usha Prasher, Ms Ruby Dhalla, MP from Canada & Ms Nina Gill, MP from Europeon Union and several others.


		Hosting reception in honour of *NRI Delegates* on occasion of *First Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas* that was organized by Government of India.

		Supporting "*Educate Widow's Children Fund*" for education of children of poor widows in India.

		Organizing fashion show in aid of *Thelessamic Children.*

		Organizing *free health camps* in association with various hospitals.

		Contributing towards relief measures in times of natural calamities like *Gujarat earth quake* and Tsunami.

		Upliftment of weaker sections of society.

		Organized annual *World Punjabi Conferences* in various countries like *Thailand, UK, Dubai and New York* where over 500 delegates from all over the globe participated. The occasion provides platform for leading Punjabis of world to have a concurrence and join in for the cause above self.

Sr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney is constantly in pursuit of measures to make the society the better place to live in.

Gurpurab Celebration

World Punjabi Organisation celebrated Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday in the precincts of Rashtrapati Bhawan on 13th November, 2008. This is the second time that the Gurpurab was celebrated at Rashtrapati Bhawan, earlier celebrations being held in 2005.Floral tribute was paid at the portrait of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari and President Smt. Pratibha Patil ji. Siropa and a portrait of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji was presented to the President by Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Padma Shri, International President WPO and Office Bearers of WPO namely Sr. B.S. Chadha-Vice President WPO, Sr. B.S. Kakar- Chairman Intl. Affaris, Sr. B.S. Anand-Chairman National Affairs & Sr. Amrit Singh Thapar-Hony. Secy General.

In his introductory address, Sr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney brought out various aspects of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and his teachings. He emphasized that Guru Nanak Dev ji was a true symbol of universal brotherhood. For him there was only one God who is eternal and timeless. For all religions the goal is the same but the path to it may be different. For him there was no cast and creed. He started the practice of “Community Kitchen” where every one irrespective of his status or cast sat together to par take “Guru ka Langar”.

WPO 10 Year Celebration

As part of the celebration of its completion of 10 glorious years, WPO organized an Exhibition Polo match on 3rd Jan, 09 at Jaipur Polo Grounds, New Delhi between Nalwa’s and Sherdill’s . The two teams consisted of well known players. In a well contested match Nalwas defeated Sherdills by 6-5. Sr. Gurcharan Singh Memorial Trophy instituted in the memory of Lt. Sr. Gurcharan Singh Sahney father of WPO International President Sr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney was given to Dr. Tony Kohli captain of the winning team. Dr. M.S. Gill, Chief Guest for the evening gave away the prizes. Sr. V.S. Sahney, International President WPO welcomes all the guests specially those from abroad for taking the trouble and sparing their valuable time to come and attend the celebrations of 10 glorious years of WPO.

A skill riding show and Vintage car show was also organized during the occasion. Both the shows were well appreciated by the spectators. The match and the show was well attended by the elite of Delhi that include Sr. S.S. Dhindsa-MP & Former Union Minister, Sr. Tarlochan Singh-MP & Former Chairman National Commission for Minorities, Sr. T.S. Marwah-MLA. Lord D.S. Rana-London, Sh. Raj Loomba MBE-London, Sr. Anup Vohra, Sh. Inder Bindra-President WPO New York, Sr. Surjit Singh-President WPO Abu Dhabi, Sr. J.S. Sachar-Dubai, Sr. Ranjit Buxi-President WPO London etc. Inspite of the inclement weather there was no lack of enthusiasim in the participants and the spectators.

CELEBRATION

World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) under the dynamic guidance of Sh. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, its International President celebrated Baisakhi festival on 11th April ’09 at Nitesh Kunj Farms, New Delhi. The gala evening was well attended by the elite. The cultural evening was graced by Gen (Retd) J J Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Governor Arunachal Pradesh. A reception dinner to honour Punjabi Parliamentarians was held at Hotel Le-Meridien, New Delhi on 6th July. Dr. M.S. Gill,Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports was the Chief Guest at the function. other Parliamentarians present on the occasion were Dr. M.S. Gill-Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Smt. Priya Dutt, Smt. Harsimrat Badal, Dr. Rattan Singh Ajnala, Sh. Ravneet Singh, Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Sh. Tarlochan Singh, Sh. Naresh Gujral & Sher Singh Gubaya.
