Chaired by Padma shri Vikramjit Sahney, Sun Foundation is a charitable Institution dedicated to welfare of mankind.  Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney was conferred "Padma shri "by the President of India on 56th Republic day of India on 26th January,2008 in recognition of his dedication and selfless work for the social cause. From the moment, Shri Sahney has been gainfully engaged, he has started supporting the needy as a true Singh….. true to Naam i.e., "Vand Chako"-share your earnings with have-nots.  In time, he also set up an institution for this nobel cause by the name of Sun Foundation. Sun Foundation was registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on December 31, 1998. Sun Foundation has been established with many altruistic aims details of which is given in the Memorandum of Association of Sun Foundation.  Some of the aims and objectives are mentioned herein for a macro view of foundation:
 
   
   
   
  To carry on relief work among the people who are in distress, to work for upliftment of women in general, girls and widows, widows, illiterate, old-aged, handicapped and mentally retarded person or persons.

To arrange, establish, manage, and supervise orphanages, old-aged homes, night shelter, community centres, Mahila Ashram/Nari Niketan.

To arrange, establish, run, manage, control, look-after and supervise the Hospital, Medical and charitable dispensaries, widows homes, old-age homes, orphanages, lunatic asylums, maternity homes, child welfare centres and to provide medical relief and /or aid to suffering human body.
Since its inception in 1998, Sun Foundation has been following its aim and marching ahead with various activities of extending its meaningful support to the mankind that is in need.  The work undertaken by Sun Foundation knows no boundaries.  Sun Foundation  is involved in various activities in making a meaningful difference to many a lives live life of dignity and pride.  Some of the projects undertaken are given hereunder:
 
 
 
Sun Foundation is running INIFD, Inter National Institute of Fashion Design, an academy of textile and fashion design, MBA and many other courses and imparting education to 350 plus students since a decade.
 
Running free technical education for differently abled youth as "Taare Zameen Par".
 
Sun Foundation has been instrumental in setting up of "Widows' Child Fund" with corpus fund of Rs. 1 crore for education of the children of poor widows in the state of Punjab.  250 poor children of widows are studying under this scheme.
 
Adopted the family of great warrior & soldier "Colonel. G.S. Sarna" who sacrificed his life fighting for the nation in Kashmir.
 
LAUNCHED THE MOVEMENT "ROKO CANCER" IN STATE OF PUNJAB THROUGH INTEGRATED MOBILE MEDICAL SERVICE, FIRST OF ITS KIND CONTAINING X-RAY, ULTRASOUND, MAMMOGRAPHY  TO SERVICE THE RURAL AREAS OF PUNJAB, HARYANA & DELHI.
 
 
 
SUPPORTING  THE CAUSE OF WIDOWS  OF '84 RIOTS  BY ARRANGING  MARRIAGES OF THEIR daughters.

  Sun Foundation is very keen to work for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons and to improve their quality of life so that they can live in dignity.  The aim of Sun Foundation is to work towards liberating destitute older persons from isolation, poverty and neglect.  Sun Foundation would like to ensure that the evening of their life is more peaceful, purposeful and above all soul-satisfying.

Sun Foundation is also deeply committed towards providing  surety and security of home to the helpless desolate children and focusing on their  upbringing to provide them with a platform to nurture and carve out a meaningful life for themselves . Sun foundation firmly believes that the key to making  India a world leader is by mobilizing the youth of the country in lieu of minimizing the great divide between the privileged and the needy.
 
Sun Foundation Sponsored the launch of ‘EcoSikh’ in India with joint participation of UNDP, SCORE & ARC. on 6th July, 2009 at India Habitat Center.‘EcoSikh’ is sikh response to global warming and climate change. it is an initiative that aims to build on its history and enable Sikh communities around the world to connect and celebrate their relationship with the environment and respect this unparallel gift of GOD in solidarity with one another.
  The event was well attended by august gathering that included Union Cabinet member Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, Justice Kuldeep Singh, MP Tarlochan Singh, Olav Kjorven, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP’s Director of Development Policy, Dr. Rajwant Singh, Chairman of SCORE, Victoria Finlay of ARC besides heads of various NGOs and representatives from religious bodies. Speaking on the occasion, Vikramjit Singh Sahney said, “The community is committed to save Planet Earth which is the gift of life from God. We believe that threat of climate change and global warming must not go unchecked. it is sad that we politically battle over caste & forget about the issues that threaten our very existence or development issues.” He observed that the environment is changing around us all the time and we can only expect Hell on Earth if we do not take any action now. It is our responsibility to reverse the environment so we have to stop polluting it.
 
 
  It was a tribute to rural India when Sun Foundation sponsored the “Felicitation of Leaders with Rural Touch”. The function was organised by Krishi Jagran & PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries on 6th August, 2009 at Constitutional Club, New Delhi.  
The function, attended by elected representatives of rural areas and officials connected with Agricultural Industry was aimed at highlighting the problems and difficulties faced by the rural farmers and to bring it to the focus of the concerned ministries for remedial measures. The function was graced by Sh. Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy.  
 
 
It was a moment of glory for Sun Foundation when Vikramjit Singh Sahney signed an MOU to start a joint venture with AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association) for a noble project – “ Asha Kiran-Taare Zameen Par” rehabilitation of differently abled personnel above 18 years of age belonging to defence and civilians.   
The above project is aimed at empowering the differently abled youth and for providing a platform for their economic self reliance. Sun Foundation has been running vocational training centre for a few years now whereby it provides a platform to train young adults with disabilities who can and want to work. Already, more than 100 youth have been benefitted by the training that has been imparted to them in fields of Textile Designing & Fabric Artistry; Graphic Designing, Paper Craft, Personality Development etc.. Sun Foundation is committed to help these young adults to secure a job and earn their own living and in turn feel valued and have a sense of purpose in life.

 
 
  Sun Foundation which has already undertaken many projects for the welfare of mankind, will be assisting AWWA to provide adequate facilities for running courses like graphic designing, textile designing, tailoring, garment manufacturing and providing the technical know-how by expert faculties, Sun Foundation is already running a vocational training centre “Tare Zameen Par” in Hauz Khas.
