Vikramjit Singh Sahney

Mr. Vikramjit Sahney has made valuable contribution towards strengthening of trade and socio-cultural ties between Indian and South Africa. One of his Group companies, Sun International Pvt. Ltd, is engaged in import of around one million tonnes of phosphoric acid, Di-ammonium Phosphate, and other fertilizer materials from Foskor Ltd of South Africa. As an equity partner in Foskor and also in his capacity as Strategic Advisor to Foskor, Mr. Sahney has been instrumental in encouraging flow of investments to Indian fertilizer sector.

Mr. Sahney is currently associated with setting up of a Joint Venture fertilizer complex in Mozambique based on use of natural gas from Mozambique. Sun International headed by Mr. Sahney is a JV partner in this project along with Foskor / IDC of South Africa and RCF of India. The project represents assured supply of fertilizers for India and hedge against global price volatility through cooperation between India and South Africa.

Mr. Sahney has chaired “The South Africa – India International Trade Initiative” organized by FICCI and Department of Trade and Industry, South Africa. He is an active delegate of IBSA business community and has been member of the Prme Ministerial delegation to Africa for boosting trade flows between both continents. He has actively participated in Conclave on India – Africa Project Partnership held from time to time.

Mr. Sahney has also played a pivotal role in sponsoring and hosting several seminars and conferences during visits of various dignitaries from South Africa including Deputy President, Ministers in the Presidency, and Premiers of some Provinces.

		Launched a scholarship for higher education in memory of late comrade Norman Mashebane, Husband of Ms. Maite Mashebane, former High Commissioner of South Africa to India

		Sponsored the mega show of “Footprints” by south African Artistes in New Delhi and Hyderabad.

		Sponsored coffee-table book titled “Dhanyavad India” on the contribution of Indian heroes to the liberation struggle of South Africa which was released by H.E. Mr. Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, Hon’ble President of Republic of South Africa.

		Sponsored Celebration of 100 years of launching of Satyagrah (fight against apartheid) by Mahatma Gandhi in south Africa by organising African Footprints show in New Delhi where Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson UPA, was the Chief Guest.

		Was part of Indian Prime Ministerial delegation to South Africa during IBSA Meet from 14-18 October ’07 to foster closer ties between India and South Africa and participated in deliberations at Presidential Palace, Pretoria. He had also attended the 5th India Brazil South Africa trilateral ministerial commission meeting between 7-11 May in Cape Town, South Africa and the 3rd Summit of the IBSA between 13-15 October, 2008 as a proactive member of the delegations.
