Vikramjit Singh Sahney

Shri Vikramjit S. Sahney is a well known entrepreneur, educationist and social worker of Delhi. Shri Sahney has been conferred with the honour of Padma Shri by the honourable President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil and International Peace Award by the Hon’ble President of Mauritius Sir Anerood Jugnauth at New Delhi.

Shri Sahney is corporate President of Sun Group. Born on 20th February, 1962, he received his Master’s Degrees in Economics as well as in Business Administration and is the driving force behind the Group’s Growth.

Philanthropic pursuits:

Shri Vikramjit Sahney is Chairman, Sun Foundation which is a charitable institution registered since 1998 established for the welfare of mankind having many altruistic aims and objectives to carry on relief work among the people who are in distress; to work for upliftment of the weaker section of society that may include old aged, destitute, handicapped or any other in need of special care. Sun Foundation is already running many educational institutions including Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD), ‘Taare Zameen Par’ – imparting technical education to special youth. Besides this, the foundation has undertaken several projects of philanthropic nature. The Foundation has to its credit, setting up of ‘widow’s child fund’; launch of ‘Roko Cancer’ movement; establishing orphanage ‘Daffodils’; adoption of children of war victims and economically weak students from rural areas fortop class professional education; supporting cause of widows of riot victims supporting de-addiction centre in Punjab, Padmashri Vikramjit Sahney organized Kirtan Darbar at Gurudwara Rakabganj Sahib as thanksgiving to Almighty Waheguru jee for his blessings. This was also to mark the arrival of historic jagriti Yatra carrying holy Shastras of Guru Gobind Singh ji from Takht Hazoor Sahib, Nanded and produced a CD of life works of great Bhagat Puran Singh on Pingalwara etc.

Vikramjit ji says that despite substantial achievements and success in economic front on world map, the challenge before India is to work on changing the face of some harsh realities – of dehumanizing poverty, of perpetual struggle for survival, of painful contrasts which cover major population of our country. Thus to overcome this bitter reality and it is the selfless involvement of affluent people towards strengthening the weaker section of society that one can address these challenges to determine our place in the world.

Socio-Cultural Interests:

Shri Sahney is International President, World Punjabi Organisation (WPO). WPO is a non political organization with Shri I.K. Gujral, former Prime Minister of India as its Chief Patron with its branches spread over 10 countries all over globe to foster social, economic and cultural bondage amongst likeminded people.

It is a matter of pride for Vikramjit in having achieved milestone success in his efforts towards strong and lasting bonds of friendship and co-operation between human beings that are beyond the boundaries of nations, caste and religion. His enduring efforts to mould public policies and opinion in the direction is reflective of values of Padmashri Vikramjit Sahney that are cherished and applauded by humanitarians. His vision savours the notion that accommodative approach to diversity of religion, cultural preferences and functioning politics is a convergence of values that transcend successfully to integrate man beyond all peripheries.

Shri Sahney’s efforts are clearly tailored for contributing to the strengthening of socio-cultural ties with various countries such as UK, US, Canada, Brazil, South Africa Pakistan and other SAARC nations. In this regard, he has played a pivotal role in sponsoring and hosting various seminars and conferences during the visit of state Heads and various other dignitaries from different parts of world.

Bringing the people of different faith to jointly celebrate religious events such as Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday as ‘Universal Brotherhood’ through the highest offices of the country such as Rashtrapati Bhawan and Prime Minister’s residence on several occasions.

Promoting rich heritage of our history and cultureof country through several light and sounds shows with hundreds of performances all over the globe.

Supporting the advancement of Indian literature through sponsoring several book releases written by great legends that are of great value related to the insight into freedom struggle and non-violence policy such as Dhanyavad India and Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Organizing various mega cultural events on heritage of Punjab in India, U.A.E., United Kingdom etc Was instrumental in putting up an equestrian statue of shere Punjab maharaja Ranjit singh in parliament house Sponsored celebration of 100 years of launching of Satyagrah (fight against apartheid) by Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa by organizing “Africa Footprints” show in New Delhi with Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson-UPA as the Chief Guest.

BUSINESS INTERESTS:

Vikramjit Singh Sahney is the Corporate President of Sun Group with Sun International Pvt. Ltd. (SIPL) being its flagship company with wholly owned subsidiaries in UAE and Singapore. The company is one of the leading international trading and consultancy organization engaged in import and export of various types of fertilizers and raw materials for India and also having third country trade with annual volume of over 2 million tones. The Sun Group also have few other companies to its consortium that are actively engaged in other business interests such as Countertrade / Offset, infrastructure Projects, call centres and food courts etc. Shri Sahney is also an Advisor to FOSKOR, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) - South Africa.
